Franz Schottky (born in 1971, Munich) is one of the young generation's most interesting German conductors. At the age of 19 he met the legendary Sergiu Celibidache (1979-96 principal conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra). He became aware of Schottky's talent and accepted him as one of his last and closest students. Until his death in 1996 Sergiu Celibidache taught Schottky in person and passed the tradition of his own teacher, Wilhelm Furtwängler, on to him. For six years Schottky has followed Sergiu Celibidache all over Europe. Thus during his studies he learned how to put theory into daily practice with one of the world's leading orchestras.

After his studies Franz Schottky gained further experience in opera, choral and orchestral conducting as guest conductor on several concerts and tours at home and abroad thereby being financially supported by the Free State of Bavaria and the German-Czech "Zukunftsfond".

In 2000 Schottky founded the international chamber orchestra "Kammerphilharmonie dacapo München", in order to implement his notion of music-making with his own top-class orchestra. Meanwhile the dacapo is firmly established in Munich's cultural life giving concerts which introduce up to eight different programs every year. They present international guest conductors as well as promising young soloists from all over the world. Schottky receives financial backing by the department of culture "Kulturreferat der Landeshaupststadt München".

Up until now Schottky has, among others, conducted orchestras like the Capella Cracoviensis (Poland), the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Lipetsk, the Russian Chamber Orchestra (both in Russia), the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Vidin (Bulgaria), the New Prague Collegium, the Northern Czech Philharmonic Orchestra of Teplice (both Czech Republic), the Orchestra Sinfonica Citta di Grosseto (Italy) and the Beethovenorchester Bonn (Germany). Franz Schottky speaks German, Italian, English, Spanish and French.
